Ulrich Sponsors Daffodil Giveaway

City Council Member Eric Ulrich

City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Belle Harbor, Breezy Point, Broad Channel, Howard Beach, Lindenwood, Neponsit, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill, Rockaway Park, Roxbury, South Ozone Park, West Hamilton Beach, Woodhaven), as part of his ongoing effort to boost the quality of life in the community, is pleased to announce that he has partnered with New Yorkers for Parks to sponsor a daffodil giveaway.

Every fall, New Yorkers for Parks gives away approximately half a million daffofil bulbs to individuals and groups planting them in New York City public spaces, such as parks, school yards, community gardens and street tree pits.

The Daffodil Project was founded in 2001 as a living memorial to commemorate the lives lost on September 11th. More than one million daffodils were planted in New York City during the Project’s first year, in one of the biggest volunteer efforts in the city’s history. As one of the first flowers to bloom each spring, daffodils symbolize the resiliency and strength of our city.

“I am thrilled to announce that my office has partnered with New Yorkers for Parks to sponsor this initiative,” Ulrich said. “I’d like to thank New Yorkers for Parks on this collaborative effort, which will help bring some of our district’s public spaces to life. I encourage all community residents and groups who are interested in participating to register for this giveaway.”

Community residents who would like to receive daffodils at no-cost must register in advance. Registration is now open and will close Wednesday, September 5.

To register, please contact Marjorie Coello at (718) 738-1083 or at [email protected].  All recipients must pick-up their daffodil bulbs at Councilman Eric Ulrich’s District Office, located at 9306 101st Avenue in Ozone Park. Distribution dates are TBD and will be announced in the coming weeks.

Cuomo Signs Legislation To Expand Benefits Available To Crime Victims

Gov. Andrew Cuomo

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo (D) yesterday signed legislation (S.7993/A.10275) that expands the benefits available to eligible crime victims, who have not been physically injured, to include reimbursement of crime scene cleanup and domestic violence shelter costs.

The change will allow victims of hate crimes or domestic violence cases to apply for compensation for these expenses from the state Office of Victim Services.

“With this legislation, we are demonstrating our continued commitment to protecting New Yorkers and helping crime victims get back on their feet and rebuild their lives,” Cuomo said. “These benefits will help the healing process and help us build a stronger, safer and more compassionate New York for all.”
