Tomorrow, the first affordable senior housing development in Corona in some three decades will begin accepting lottery applications.

That after the $35 million HANAC Corona Senior Residence, 54-17 101st Street, is putting on its finishing touches.

The development is a part of the 2014 Willets Point benefits package that recently retired City Council Member Julissa Fereras-Copeland negotiated.

Of the Senior Residence’s 68 units, 46 will be leased through the lottery. In all there are four studios and 42 one-bedrooms available, with two of the studios and three of the one-bedrooms renting in the 40 percent area median income bracket and two of the studios and 39 of the one-bedrooms renting in the 50 percent AMI bracket. In both cases, eligible residents will be paying a rent adjusted to makeup 30 percent of their income.

Single-person households are eligible for the studios and one- to two-person households are eligible for the one-bedrooms. Depending on the unit being applied for, applicants must be making no more than $38,200 a year. Those with no income are eligible.

As well, applicants must have one household member 62 years old or older. A percentage of units will be set aside for mobility-, vision-, and hearing-disabled applicants.

The building boasts a resident community room, laundry room, outdoor recreation area, high-tech security system, seated showers, rail-bars, and on-site social services provided in partnership with neighborhood senior centers.

The building is smoke-free and there is no broker or application fee to apply. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online through NYC Housing Connect no later than March 14, 2018.
